SG Minifootball Festival is an initiative of Munich Football School in Singapore. It is a competitive format which we aim to provide on a weekly basis allowing all players of the age groups U7 - U12 to play in a 3vs3 and 4vs4 format.
The standard U7 and U8 format is a 3vs3, the standard U10 to U12 is 4vs4 with the organisational details:
The goal is to provide every player with a competitive environment where they are able to improve their individual skills, their ball handling, their passing and shooting skills as well as their tactical understanding in a fun way – without the disadvantages of the 7vs7 format.
The football pitch is setup in various 3vs3 and 4vs4 fields. On each field a team consist ideally 4 players in the 3vs3 and 5 players in the 4vs4 format.
1 player is a rotation player who is going into the game either after goal or 2 minutes while another player is then becoming the rotation player.
The winning team moves up and the losing team moves down. In this way after 2-3 matches equally talented teams will compete with each other making it much more fun – both for players and parents.
There are various different options how to play the tournament. Above’s picture shows 5 different versions. Each version teaches the players a different tactical knowledge.
SG Minifootball Festival has proven to be a much more effective gameform than the classic 7vs7 gameform – both in the health aspect as well as in the player development aspect. A study done by the Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen Germany showed the following results:
The German Football Association DFB has tested the Minifootball format extensively of the last 7 years and introduces it now as the main competitive format for all U11 age groups as of 2024:
On top it is a very cost effective competitive format, allowing any parent that wishes for their children to have a competitive environment to participate.
We are proud to introduce the SG Minifootball Festival in Singapore and are looking forward to a lot of teams participating.
Any team can participate as long as the team consist of at least 3 players. You do not have to be in an academy or club. If you have 2 more friends and would like to try it out you are very welcome to join. In case parents want to organize a team of 3-5 players or more feel free to register and participate. It will be a lot of fun!
Absolutely. The SG Minifootball Festival is not a competitive league system to the JSSL or Young Eagles FC Youth League. It provides a different competitive format that is focused on player development.
The SG Minifootball Festival is unique as we do not count goals, give points, award a trophy or medals. It is soley focused on player development: lots of ball touches, lots of goal scoring, lots of dribbling. Hence it is an ideal environment for players to put in practice what they learn in their training. It is highly intense for every player and after 2-3 games with the winner moving up and the losing team moving down a pitch, equally talented teams play against each other making it even more fun. Also the time of a match with 7-10 minutes and a 2 minute break mean that the players are 100% active all the time and will be tremendously exhausted afterwards – but very happy as they scored lots of goals. Futhermore we play with 2 goals on each side requiring the children to lift up their heads, we have a shooting zone from which you can score a goal. Goals from outside the shooting zone do not count. This requires the players to not shoot but dribble their way into the shooting zone. Also we use 1mx2m goals which are adequate for the players body size. In short – everyone plays more, everyone scores more, everyone moves more and has more fun.
Minifootball has revolutionized the European youth education. Lots of countries have now adopted the format, amonst others DFB, Netherlands, UK, Spain. Here is competitive format of the Germany Football association DFB as of 2024, after 7 years of testing the Minifootball concept:
No. We play a festival as the focus is on player development not on winning a league, which we believe to be the right focus for the U7-U12 age group. It is always possible to play a league format on top of the participation of the SG Minifootball Festival format.
